Columbia County Sheriff Donald J. Krapf is pleased to announce that the Columbia County Sheriff’s
Office has joined the nationwide OffenderWatch sex offender registry network. The Sheriff’s Office
in partnership with the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, Probation Department, Hudson
Police Department, Greenport Police Department, Chatham Police Department, Stockport Police
Department and Philmont Police Department will be joining together to implement this new program
to improve the safety and security of the residents of Columbia County. The OffenderWatch program
will allow law enforcement agencies to work together to better share information, coordinate
investigations and collaborate on sex offender monitoring.
The biggest advantage of having this new software is the accessibility of information to those we have
sworn to protect in Columbia County. Citizens in our community wanting to search for and track sex
offenders can now receive notifications in real-time. The free family safety app and email notifications
will help families find their child’s location, find sex offenders near them, and receive alerts from the
Sheriff’s Office. Anonymous tips regarding sex offenders can also be sent to us through
OffenderWatch.
Columbia County residents can use the Sheriff’s Office website to search for sex offenders residing in
their neighborhood, subscribe to receive e-mail alerts from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and
download the free version of the OffenderWatch App, which helps families find their child’s location
as well as find sex offenders near them.
“This program is one of the many initiatives by the Sheriff’s Office to collaborate with other law
enforcement agencies to efficiently and effectively improve services that better serve our community,”
said Columbia County Sheriff Donald J. Krapf.
OffenderWatch is the nation's leading sex offender registration solution, with over 4,000 law
enforcement agencies in 39 states using the technology and over 15,000 users. Local and state agencies
use the software to keep track of registered offenders across jurisdictions, collaborate on interagency
operations, and automatically notify the community through the Sheriff’s website, email alerts, and
free family safety app.
There are more than 900,000 registered sex offenders in the United States, according to the National
Center for Missing & Exploited Children. OffenderWatch allows different law enforcement agencies
to collaborate on a single offender record, improving accuracy and aiding in public safety.
