RECORD CHECKS
NOTICE: As authorized by the Columbia County Board of Supervisors Resolution #103-2007, effective August 1, 2007, there will be a $10.00 fee for all Criminal Records Checks.
Criminal record checks from the Sheriff's Office pertain only to records maintained by this Office. Complete state-wide criminal record checks can be obtained from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services at https://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/
A Criminal Record Check may be obtained from the Sheriff's Office by submitting a request in writing and only after signing a waiver authorizing the release of information. when requesting a criminal records check the following information is required:
1. current and any other names used, (maiden, etc...).
2. Date of Birth
3. Social Security Number
4. Address
5. A signed release form from the individual authorizing the criminal record check and release of such information.
The information submitted must be legible, may be mailed in or dropped off at the office. If the request is hand delivered, please be advised that the check can NOT be done immediately. Criminal record checks are normally completed within 2-3 working days. A faxed copy can NOT be accepted.
Criminal record checks conducted by this office pertain to ONLY the records on file at the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and NO OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY IN NEW YORK STATE. It will NOT reflect an arrest made by any other Federal, State or Town law enforcement agency. The criminal record check will however, indicate if the person has been committed to the Columbia County Jail, the date, for what reason and from what court committed. Further information regarding disposition of the case must be obtained from other sources such as the court, etc... Further information can not be released from the Sheriff's Office (including the Jail).
