CORRECTIONS TRAINING

Sheriff's Correction Officers are required to successfully complete a basic NYS Correction/Peace Officer course as well as several weeks of corrections field training.  In addition to the initial training, Officers continually attend in-service and specialized training at the Public Safety Facility and at other facilities around New York State and in other states.

The Sheriff's Office currently maintains ten Corrections instructors certified by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services and other agencies.  The instructors are certified to instruct various areas of the Corrections profession such as; chemical agents, gang recognition, fire arms, health and safety, legal issues, CPR/AED, suicide prevention and other subjects.  The instructors of the Corrections Division work to give Officers the  tools needed to maintain a safe, secure and professional correctional facility.
