Lieutenant William Hilscher
Assistant Chief Correction Officer
Lieutenant Hilscher attended primary and secondary schools in the Hudson City School District, graduating with an advanced regents degree in 1982 from Hudson High School. He has since obtained an Associates Degree in Math Science from Columbia Greene Community College.
Lieutenant Hilscher started with the Sheriff's Office in 1991 as a Corrections Officer. In December 2000 he was promoted to shift Supervisor with the rank of Sergeant. Most recently, in 2014, he was promoted to Assistant Chief Corrections officer with the Rank of Lieutenant by Sheriff, David Bartlett, where he oversees the daily activities of the county's correctional facility.
Lieutenant Hilscher is a DCJS certified law enforcement instructor for general topics and has attended many additional training pertinent to the advancement and understanding of his job duties as an Assistant Jail Administrator.
He is a 29 year member of the Taghkanic volunteer Fire Company, having held the rank of Lieutenant, Secretary, Vice President, President and also Fire Chief, which he held for 22 consecutive years. During his tenure as Chief he attended numerous OFPC certified specialized training courses and has national certification as a Firefighter I and as a Firefighter II.
He is a past two term member of the Taghkanic Town Board where he has an integral part in the future planning of the town as well as it's monthly management. Lieutenant Hilscher currently resides in the Town of Taghkanic and has two grown children.
Lieutenant Jeremy Huyck
Assistant Chief Correction Officer
Lieutenant Jeremy Huyck is a 21-year veteran with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
He holds many instructor certifications including Firearms, Riot/Crowd Control, High Risk Transports, Chemical Agents, Impact Weapons, Less Lethal, Active Shooter, Chemical Agents, Taser/Axon, Field Training Officer, Impact Weapons instructor, ICE Shield, and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Lt. Huyck was the first ever to design and facilitate a Pre-employment Corrections Officer Basic Academy in New York State at the Columbia Greene Community College.
Jeremy began his career with the CCSO as a Corrections Officer in 2000. In 2002 he was one of the founding members of the Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT). Lt. Huyck served as commander of the CERT Team for many years where he discovered his passion for training and mentoring other officers.
In 2013, Jeremy certified as a DCJS General Topics instructor and the following year was promoted to Corporal. At that time, he assumed the role of Training Coordinator for the Corrections Division, overseeing all training as required by NYS DCJS, OSHA and to fulfil Commission of Corrections and accreditation guidelines. Jeremy also held the rank of Sergeant and First Sergeant before he was promoted to Lieutenant in 2021.
As a lifelong resident of Columbia County, Jeremy has served his community in other roles.
In 2004, he was sponsored by the Philmont Village Police Department and attended the Zone 14 Police Academy. He worked for the PPD for 16 years and held the rank of Deputy OIC. He currently works for the Greenport Police Department holding the rank of Sergeant and oversees all Training within the department. Jeremy is also an instructor at the Zone 14 Police Academy where he enjoys training and mentoring new and upcoming officers.
