Animal Abuse Registry |
Effective September 11, 2024, the Columbia County Sheriff, or his/her designee, is hereby authorized, empowered, and directed to establish an online Animal Abuser Registry that shall contain the names and residence information of all available Animal Abuse Offenders living in Columbia County who are convicted of an Animal Abuse Crime.
The registry shall contain the required information about each Animal Abuse Offender for seven (7) years following their release from incarceration, or, if not incarcerated, from the date of the judgment of conviction. Any currently or previously registered Animal Abuser Offender convicted of a subsequent Animal Abuse Crime shall be placed on the Animal Abuser Registry for life following the second conviction.
Any individual convicted of an animal abuse crime after September 11, 2024, and residing in the County of Columbia must register with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office within five (5) days from the date of judgment, and will appear on this registry.
Any person or entity transferring the ownership of an animal is required to inspect the registry to see if the person obtaining ownership is listed below:
