                                                   Sex Offender Arrest
                                                                          June 29, 2007

Livingston, NY      Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports the arrest of 38-year-old Michael D.
Goldstein of Summit Avenue Catskill, NY, (formerly of route 9G Livingston), charged with the class A
Misdemeanor of Failure to Register and Verify Address as a sex offender.  This arrest is the first arrest of a
registered Sex Offender since Deputy Sheriff’s began actually visiting the addresses of sex offenders in
Columbia County.  Sheriff Harrison explains that registered sex offenders are required to report to the most
local police agency where they reside, with documentation to verify the address.  He says that in February of
this year, the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation branch was restructured and Sr/Inv William Foster was
placed in charge of overseeing the Sex Offenders who report to the Sheriff’s Office.  Additionally, Deputy
Sheriff’s assigned to assist Foster began going to the addresses to physically verify sex offender addresses, a
practice which is now recommended by NYS.

Upon attempting to verify Goldstein’s address, Deputy Sheriffs William Hallenbeck and Jim O’Connell learned
he had moved and failed to register his new address with the Sheriff’s Office as required by the New York State
Corrections Law.

Goldstein was taken into custody without incident by Deputy Sheriff’s William Hallenbeck and Patrick Logue,
arraigned in the Livingston Town Court by Judge Robert Q. Moore and remanded to the County Jail in lieu of
$3,000.00 cash or $6,000.00 bail bond. Goldstein will return to Town Court July 12th @ 7:00pm.
