                       MISSING HILLSDALE WOMAN LOCATED
                                                       OCTOBER 13, 2010
Hillsdale, NY - Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports that on Tuesday, October 12th at approximately
4:15pm, Deputy Sheriff’s received a report from a gentleman in the Hillsdale area that his 79 year old wife was
missing.  The woman, who suffers from dementia and the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s disease, left her
residence to go to an establishment in Copake earlier in the day.  When her husband came home at approximately
3:00pm, he found that she had not returned.  He immediately went to the Copake establishment and confirmed that
his wife had been there earlier and had left in her vehicle.

Deputy Sheriff’s responded and immediately began a search of the area.  A regional missing person alert was sent
to police agencies along the east coast asking them to be on the lookout for her and her vehicle.

The woman was located just before 8:00PM in Dover, Dutchess County, NY by the State Police in her vehicle and
reportedly was not able to find her way home but otherwise in good condition.  Her family was notified.

Sheriff Harrison reminds everyone that the Sheriff’s Office participates in the Project Lifesaver Program.  The
woman in Hillsdale was not a Project Lifesaver participant.  Project Lifesaver is a rapid response program which
aids Law Enforcement in locating individuals who may wander and is suffering from Alzheimer’s, Autism, Down
Syndrome, Dementia or other similar conditions.  It uses state of the art technology which dramatically increases the
chances of specially trained Deputy Sheriff’s to locate individuals who participate in the program.  The Columbia
County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Taconic Developmental Disabilities Services and any one interested
in the program should contact their office (845-473-5050) and speak to the Project Lifesaver Coordinator for
information.  The program will be made available to families who may not qualify only due to their financial situation.
