SHERIFF’S PATROL STRUCK BY VEHICLE, DEPUTY SHERIFF
AND DRIVER INJURED
September 18, 2010
Copake, NY Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports that a Sheriff’s Patrol was involved in an automobile accident
resulting in injuries this evening at about 6:01 pm.
25 year old Deputy Sheriff Marcus Hickey was on routine patrol in a marked Sheriff’s Dodge Durango patrol vehicle
traveling east bound on NYS Rte 23. At the intersection with County Rte 7 in Craryville in the Town of Copake, 38
year old Jennifer Lane of Craryville, NY, who was operating a 1995 Chevrolet pulled from Co Rte 7 onto Rte 23
striking the Sheriff’s Patrol. Deputy Sheriff Hickey who was wearing his seat belt, was transported by Copake
Rescue Squad to Columbia Memorial Hospital with back pain. Lane who was wearing her seat belt, was also
transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Copake Rescue Squad with neck pain and arm injuries. There were
no passengers in either vehicles.
Witnesses to the accident said that the Deputy Sheriff was traveling at a normal speed and attempted to avoid the
collision. Lane was issued traffic tickets by Captain David Bartlett to appear in Copake Town Court for Failure to
Yield after Stopping at a stop Sign and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd Degree as her license had been
suspended.
The Sheriff’s Incident Scene Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigation Branch, Craryville Fire Company and Copake
Rescue Squad responded to the scene.
