ONGOING DRUG ARRESTS
JUNE 30, 2010
COLUMBIA COUNTY, NY Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports that another arrest was made on June 29,
2010 @ 11:35am in the ongoing drug and weapons investigations by the Capital District Drug Task Force.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police assigned to the Task Force and assisted by
the Hudson Police Department, arrested Edwin E. Rivera of Footbridge Ext., Stockport pursuant to a federal
warrant issued by US Magistrate Judge, the Hon. David R Homer and charged with Title 18 of the United
States Code Section 922(g)(1) for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Previously Convicted
Felon.
Rivera was arrested in an apartment on State Street in the City of Hudson and then arraigned before
Magistrate Homer who committed him to the custody of the US Marshall’s on no bail, to return to federal court
in Albany on June 30, 2010.
The Sheriff’s Office formally became a member of the Capital District Task Force in 2009. An Investigator
from the Drug Enforcement and Education Unit is assigned full time to the task force. The task force is a
federal agency led by special agents from the US Drug Enforcement Administration and the United States
Attorney’s Office, as well as police officers from the NY State Police and various Sheriff’s Offices and local
police Departments in the Capital District Area. The task force, including the US Attorney’s Office and
assisting local departments have worked hard over the past several months on the current drug cases.
The Sheriff said that these arrests are only the beginning. The Sheriff’s Office, State Police, Hudson Police,
Chatham Police and other local police agencies in our county along with the Capital District Drug Task Force,
all have made illegal drug trafficking and the crimes associated with it ...a priority. The investigations and
arrests will continue using whatever legal recourses available both federally and with the District Attorney’s
Office.
The message is, don’t come to Columbia County to deal drugs!
