Underage Drinking Party Lead to Arrests
                                                        April 28, 2010

Austerlitz, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports that three individuals from the Town of
Austerlitz were arrested as a result of their involvement in a party which involved underage drinking at their
residence.  Robert Mantell, age 50, his wife Vicky Mantell age 43 and their son,  21 year old Jacob Mantell of
route 203 Austerlitz were arrested at 10:00am this morning and charged with six counts each of Unlawfully
Dealing with a Child, a class A-Misdemeanor.

The investigation was initiated after the Sheriff’s Office received two calls from different Chatham Central School
District officials regarding an incident concerning underage drinking possibly involving a school district employee.
The investigation has revealed that a birthday party was held at their residence on April 2nd.  The party
progressed to a point where Robert, Vicky and Jacob Mantell participated in beer drinking games with at least six
underage individuals ranging in ages from sixteen (16) to eighteen (18) years old.  There was also liquor
consumed at the party as well.  It is reported that later in the night, one 17 year old became sick after drinking
liquor.

Vicky Mantell is employed by the School District as a Teaching Assistant.  Sheriff’s Investigators are also
investigating a second underage drinking party held at the Mantell residence on an evening after the April 2nd
party.  It is unclear at this time whether the Mantels knew of the underage drinking at the second party.

The Mantell’s turned themselves in to the Sheriff’s Office where they were processed and released with
Appearance Tickets directing them to Autsterlitz Town Court on Wednesday, May 5th @ 7pm.  The Columbia
County District Attorney’s office assisted in the investigation.

Chatham Central School District Officials have and continue to cooperate with the investigation, which is
continuing.
