                                  Van - School Bus Accident
                                                        April 20, 2010

Craryville, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that at 7:09am this morning, County 911
assigned Deputy Sheriff’s to a car vs. school bus personal injury accident on state route 23 in Craryville, NY.  A
2010 Freightliner School Bus owned  by the Taconic Hills Central School District was stopped in the westbound
lane of route 23 with its red lights flashing while children were waiting to cross on the south side of the highway
when a 1993 Dodge Mini-Van operated by 25 year old Andrew Flynn of Hillsdale crashed into the rear of the
bus.

Flynn was trapped in the mini-van and was extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life by the Craryville Fire
Company.  Copake Rescue Squad transported him to a landing zone on county route 11 where he was
transferred to the Albany Med-Flight helicopter and flown, as a precaution to the Albany Medical Center.  The
school bus had seventeen children on board and although neither the children nor the driver, 45 year old
Carolyn Avrigg of Hillsdale complained of injuries at the scene, seven students later at school reported minor
injuries to school officials.

Sheriff Harrison said the investigation is continuing by Deputy Sheriff William Dunspaugh and charges are
possible.

Also on the scene for the Sheriff’s Office were, Undersheriff James Sweet, Captain David Bartlett, Lieutenant
James Andrews and Deputy Sheriff Wendy Guntert.
