Sheriff’s Office Investigates Two Deaths
April 7, 2010
Ancram, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that Uniformed Deputy Sheriff’s and
Criminal Investigators are investigating the death of two individuals at #9715 state route 82 in Ancramdale, NY.
Deputy Sheriff’s were dispatched to the scene after they received a call at 9:33am this morning from the young
victims grandfather who resides next door to the incident reporting the obvious death of these individuals.
Upon arrival of Deputy Sheriff’s, they checked the residence and found an adult male and a young child
deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
The victims have been identified as 42 year old Franklin Hankerson and his 5 year old son Khaliff. At this time, it
appears that Mr. Hankerson shot and killed his son before turning the gun on himself however the final
determination will be made upon completion of the investigation.
Sheriff Harrison stated that at this time the investigation is continuing and autopsies are scheduled to take place
12:15pm tomorrow at St. Peters Hospital in Albany, NY by Pathologist Dr. Jeffrey Hubbard.
On the scene for the Sheriff’s Office were Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr., Undersheriff James Sweet, Captain
David Bartlett, Lieutenant James Andrews, Sr. Investigators William Foster and Kevin Skype, Uniformed Deputy
Sheriff’s, Criminal Investigators and the Incident Scene Investigation Unit. Dr. George Davis, Columbia County
Coroner was also on the scene.
Assisting at the scene were members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and
members of the Pine Plains Fire Department .
The investigation is continuing by Sheriff’s Office personnel and Coroner Davis.
