SHOTS FIRED IN GREENPORT
February 14, 2010
Greenport, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that while Deputy Sheriff’s Brendan Filli
and Louis Bray were on patrol at approximately 2:23am February 14th, they reported hearing possible gun shots
in the area of Joe’s Bar on Fairview Avenue in Greenport. A vehicle was observed by Deputy Sheriff’s fleeing the
scene at a high rate of speed and failed to comply with Deputy Sheriff’s emergency lights and sirens as they
attempted to stop the vehicle. Deputy Sheriff’s Ian Boehme, Vernon Doyle and Sheriff’s Sergeant William Zincio
also responded.
The vehicle continued to attempt to flee the Deputy Sheriff’s as they continued southbound towards the city of
Hudson. Deputy Sheriff’s Louis Bray and Brendan Filli apprehended the operator of the vehicle during a short
foot chase in the area of Front and State Streets. Hudson City Police assisted at the scene.
Arrested was 32 year old Billy Ray Robinson of route 9 Greenport and charged with Driving While Intoxicated,
Operating a Motor Vehicle with a BAC greater than .08%, 2 counts of Speeding, Failure to Comply with a Police
Officer, four counts of Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Failure to Keep Right, 2 counts of Failure to Signal, and
Moving from Lane Unsafely.
Robinson, who is currently on parole, was arraigned in the Greenport Town Court by Judge Robert Brenzel,
remanded to the county jail in lieu of $10,000.00 cash or bail bond and ordered to return to town court at a later
date.
The investigation is continuing at this time by Uniformed Deputy Sheriff’s and Criminal Investigator Pat Logue.
