SERIOUS CAR ACCIDENT IN GHENT
January 03, 2010
Ghent, NY - Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports that at 11:20pm Saturday, January 2, 2010,
911 dispatchers assigned Sheriff’s Patrol Sergeant William Zincio and Deputy Sheriff Kris Bauhoff, to a serious
personal injury automobile crash on route 217 near Schnackenberg Road in the Town of Ghent.
Upon arriving, they found that a 2001 Dodge four door sedan had traveled off the roadway and struck a tree. The
vehicle was operated by Matthew T. McKeon, 21 years old of Purdys, NY. There were two passengers, 16 year
old Timothy S. Dwyer who was sitting in the front passenger seat and 18 year old Anthony Ghelarducci who was a
rear seat passenger. The Ghent Fire Company requested assistance from the Chatham Fire Department with the
JAWS of Life to extricate Dwyer. McKeon and Dwyer were wearing seat belts and back seat passenger
Ghelarducci was not.
McKeon and Dwyer sustained head injuries and Ghelarducci was complaining of a back injury. All three were
transported to the Columbia memorial Hospital by the Philmont and Greenport Rescue Squads. Dwyer was later
transferred to the Albany Medical center due to the seriousness of his injury.
At the scene for the Sheriff’s Office were Senior Investigator Kevin Skype and Investigator Anthony Brahm, the
Sheriff’s Office Incident Scene Investigation Unit with Deputy Sheriff’s Brendan Filli and Scott Leggett. Assisting
the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Philmont Police Officers Owen Conway, John Sottile and Matthew Chase.
At this time it appears that McKeon was traveling eastbound on route 217 at an unsafe speed and lost control
running off the road crashing into the tree.
Sheriff Harrison said the investigation is continuing and charges are possible.
