2009 Handicapped Parking Enforcement Effort
November 25, 2009
Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. announces that the fourth annual Handicap Parking
Enforcement week is being held during November.
When handicapped parking laws are violated, an already difficult situation is made even more difficult for
persons with disabilities as they attempt to find parking which would allow them accessibility to their
destination.
This week is intended to raise awareness that persons with disabilities must have appropriate access to
holiday activities like everyone else and especially with regards to handicapped parking.
During the week of November 29th – December 5, 2009, Law Enforcement Commander, Captain David P.
Bartlett has requested that all law enforcement agencies in Columbia County participate in targeting
handicapped parking violations. The Sheriff’s Office will also patrol parking lots checking to ensure adequate
handicapped parking spots and will provide awareness training to any group or community organization
requesting same.
