Grand Larceny Arrest
November 20, 2009
Valatie, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports that 46 year old Lisa A. Nagel of Congress
Street Cohoes, NY was arrested Wednesday, November 18, 2009 @ 12:50pm and charged with Grand
Larceny 3rd degree a class D-Felony. Nagel who had become the power of attorney for an elderly
gentleman she had befriended, used the POA authority to collect the proceeds from the sale of the victim’s
home and property while he was a resident of a local nursing home.
The Sheriff’s Office began the criminal investigation when members of the Columbia County Department of
Social Services Adult Protective Unit contacted Sheriff’s Investigators.
As the investigation progressed, Nagel was found to have moved to various locations in Saratoga County and
continually received and cashed the victim’s social security checks.
Deputy Sheriff Mahan of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office turned Nagel over to Columbia County Deputy
Sheriff Joshua Oakes and Criminal Investigator John Rivero. Nagel was processed and arraigned in the
Village of Valatie Justice Court by Judge Steven Berry, ror’d and ordered to return to village court at a later
date.
Additional charges are pending against Nagel as the investigation is continuing by several other agencies
including the Social Security Administration, New York State Police and Saratoga County Department of
Social Services.
Sheriff Harrison said; “The relationship the Sheriff’s Office developed with the Department of Social Services,
particularly the Adult Protective Services Unit and the cooperation of both agencies has allowed the
investigation to result in this arrest. We will continue to do everything within the law we can to stop these
types of crimes against Senior Citizen’s in Columbia County”.
Sheriff Harrison is also asking anyone that has information on other similar activity Nagel may be involved in,
to please call the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Branch at 518-828-4316.
