POSSIBLE ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION IN PHILMONT
October 07, 2009
Philmont, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports that Deputy Sheriff’s are investigating the
report of possible attempted child abduction. Deputy Sheriff’s received a call at approximately 7:13am this
morning from the father of an eleven year old girl who reported that while on Eagle Street in Philmont, a white
pickup truck slowly followed his daughter and at one point the driver asked her if she missed the school bus and
offered to give her a ride to school.
The girl ran from the man to her home and immediately reported the incident to her father.
The driver of the Pick-Up Truck was a white male, with brown hair and a go-tee. The vehicle was last seen
traveling away from the area at a high rate of speed towards county route 11.
Deputy Sheriffs and Sheriff’s Investigators are looking into the possibility that the same type of event with the
same description happened this morning to another young girl on different street in Philmont.
The Sheriff said that the girls did the right thing by running to a safe area and reporting the incident right away.
Sheriff Harrison is asking anyone who might have any information, to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 828-3344.
Update - Same Date
Sheriff Harrison also advises that an updated description of the perpetrator of the possible attempted child
abduction in Philmont earlier today was received just a short time ago. The Sheriff said the suspect is described
to be a thin white male with a tan complexion, approximately 30 years of age, short brown hair with a crew cut, full
brownish beard trimmed short. The suspect reportedly was also wearing a silver loop in his left ear.
