THREE ARRESTED WHILE SELLING STOLEN HANDGUN
September 23, 2009
Valatie, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports that the Sheriff’s Office has arrested three
individuals involved in the sale of a stolen handgun in Valatie.
Sheriff’s Investigators were investigating a Burglary reported on September 20th involving the theft of a Smith
& Wesson 38 Caliber Revolver from a Valatie residence. They developed information that the same handgun
had possibly been used in a Home Invasion in Greene County.
As the investigation progressed, three individuals were arrested at about 11:48AM on September 22, 2009
as they sold the handgun on New Street in Valatie.
Uniformed members of the Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. Team and Criminal Investigators arrested 26 year old
Keith W. Moulaison of Route 9 Kinderhook, 18 year old Matthew E. Kelly, IV, of Karen Court, Niverville and 27
year old Christopher Alston of Richmond, VA. The handgun gun was recovered at the time of the arrest.
Moulaison and Kelly were charged with Criminal Sale of a Firearm 3rd Degree, a Class D-Felony and
Conspiracy 5th Degree, a Class A-Misdemeanor. Alston was charged with Conspiracy 5th Degree a Class A-
Misdemeanor.
All three were arraigned in the Village of Valatie Court by Valatie Judge Steve Berry. Remanded to the
county jail, Moulaison was held on $25,000.00 cash or $50,000.00 bail bond, Kelly was held on $15,000.00
cash or $30,000.00 bail bond and Alston was held on $2,500.00 cash or $5,000.00 bail bond. Moulaison and
Kelly will return to Village Court September 28th at 10:00am and Alston will return to court October 13th at 6:
00pm.
District Attorney Beth Cozzolino and ADA’s from her Office assisted in the investigation. SR/Investigator
Kevin Skype and Investigators Paul Graziano, Mark Dunspaugh and Patrick Logue as well as Sergeants
Michael Merante and William Zincio and Deputy Sheriffs Louis Bray and Marcus Hickey were involved in the
investigation and arrest.
Sheriff’s Office Investigators continue to work with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Hudson Police
Department as to possible connections to criminal activity in their areas.
The Sheriff said, “Any time we can take a stolen handgun off of our streets its a good thing. The
investigation was successful due to the work done by the investigators and from the tips and assistance
received from Valatie residents. The residents who came forward made the safety of their community a
priority and I commend them.”
