GHENT MAN ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY
August 27, 2009
Ghent, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigator
Patrick Logue and Deputy Sheriff Scott Leggett arrested Jerry W. Smart, 35 years old of W. Ghent Road, Ghent,
NY for a burglary he committed August 24th on Stockport Road in the Town of Ghent. Smart was charged with
Burglary 3rd Degree, a Class D-Felony and Grand Larceny 4th degree, a Class E-Felony when he was arrested
without incident on August 26th at 7:08pm.
Deputy Sheriff’s recovered the $1,200.00 power equipment which Smart had stolen from the building he broke into.
Arraigned in the Claverack Town Court by Judge Michael Brandon, Smart was remanded to the county jail in lieu of
$1,000.00 cash or $2,000.00 bail bond. He will return to the Town of Ghent Court August 31st @ 10am.
