SEXUAL ABUSE ARREST
August 5, 2009
Philmont, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that 23 year old John E. Race, Jr. of
State Route 23 Claverack was arrested August 3rd @ 6:05pm by Sheriff’s Investigators and charged with
Sexual Abuse 1st Degree a class D-Felony. Race is charged with forcibly touching the private area of an
eleven year old female while at a residence in Philmont in late June, then threatening her with physical harm if
she told anyone about the incident.
The investigation was initiated by Sergeant Michael Merante on August 3rd after the victim’s father contacted
the Sheriff’s Office.
Race was arrested by Sheriff’s Criminal Investigator’s Dunspaugh and Patrick Logue. He was arraigned in
the Village of Philmont Justice Court by Judge Rick Tracy and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $5,000.00
cash or $10,000.00 bail bond. Race was directed to return to Village Court August 6th @ 5:15pm.
Sheriff Harrison is asking that anyone who may have information about similar activity by Race, contact the
Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Branch at 518-828-4316.
