                SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR BURGLARIES
                                                        JUNE 2, 2009

Ghent, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports the arrest of a 21 year old Ghent man for
breaking into two locations during the month of May.  Bryan S. Smith of NYS Route 203 Ghent, NY was arrested
following a three week investigation by Uniformed Deputy Sheriffs and Sheriff’s Investigators.
             
Smith is charged with Burglary 2nd degree, a Class C – Felony, Burglary 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony and 2
counts of Petit Larceny.  He is accused of breaking into a residence in the Edgewood Acres mobile home park and
the Mac-Hayden Theater on route 203 in Ghent on different dates and stealing money from both locations.  Some
of the stolen money was recovered by Investigators.  Smith made admissions concerning his involvement in the
Burglaries.    

Sheriff’s Investigators Mark Dunspaugh and Patrick Logue arrested Smith on May 26th @ 4:45pm.  He was
arraigned before Ghent Town Justice Mark Portin and remanded to the county jail without bail pending further
court action.

Sheriff Harrison commends the work done by the members of the Sheriffs Office who worked on this case,
especially the Sheriff’s Criminal investigation Branch who has been extremely busy as of late.  The Sheriff advises
that the investigation is continuing and additional charges and arrests are possible.
