SHERIFF'S CAPTAIN ATTENDS NATIONAL TRAINING
March 24, 2009
Columbia County, NY Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. announces that Captain John W. Davi, Correction
Division Commander and Jail Administrator for the Sheriff’s Office earned a Certificate of Completion for a
national jail training program.
Captain Davi was one of only 26 applicants out of 170 nation wide, to attend the United States Department of
Justice National Institute of Corrections, (NIC) Jail Administration Training Program. The week long training was
held in Denver Colorado, at the National Institute of Correction Training Academy during the week of March 9th,
2009. The training, travel, lodging and meals were paid for by the Department of Justice for those chosen to
attend.
The training consisted of current trends in corrections for jails with inmate populations under 150. Staff and
inmate management, policy development and risk management were also topics covered by NIC staff and
corrections professionals from around the United States.
Sheriff Harrison said, “Just the fact that Captain Davi was chosen to attend the national level training says a lot
about his dedication and professionalism. I feel that this type of training is important in ensuring that we
maintain a professional, safe and secure county jail.”
