SHERIFF'S OFFICE TO PROVIDE SNOWMOBILE SAFETY COURSE
                                                   JANUARY 21, 2009

Columbia County, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that his office along with the NYS
Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will conduct a New York State Snowmobile Safety Course on
February 28, 2009 between the hours of 8am-4pm, at the Spencertown Fire Station on NYS Rt. 203 at the
intersection with Memorial Dr in Spencertown, (Town of Austerlitz).  This course provides fundamental information
on snowmobile laws and other information which all snowmobilers should know in order to ensure the safety of
riders and other trail users whether; walking, skiing or riding.  Successful completion of this course results in the
participant being issued a NYS Snowmobile Safety Certificate.  Snowmobilers of all ages beginning at the age of
10 years old can attend the course.

This course will be taught by Columbia County Deputy Sheriff’s certified as instructors by the NYS Office of Parks,
Recreation and Historic Preservation.  Young people ages 14 through 17 years old who successfully complete
this course may operate a snowmobile upon lands where snowmobiling is allowed.  The course is recognized by
the State of New York.

This course is free to the public, seating is limited.  Reservations can be made by contacting Captain David P.
Bartlett at 518-828-0601 ext. 1403.  Students should bring a lunch.

This is the first Snowmobile Safety Course offered by the Sheriff’s Office.  Sheriff Harrison says that due to the
increase in snowmobile riding in Columbia County and throughout New York State, his office will provide the
course every winter to county residents.
