Sheriff’s Office Arrest for Multiple Burglaries

Columbia County, NY – Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that while his office investigates an increase in
property crimes, 28 year old Duane McEwan, no permanent address given, was arrested yesterday by
Columbia County Deputy Sheriff’s at 11:01pm. McEwan was charged with Burglary 2nd degree - class C-
Felony, Burglary 3rd degree - a class D-Felony, Grand Larceny 4th degree - class E-Felony, Petit Larceny
and Criminal Mischief 4th degree both class A Misdemeanors. McEwan was charged after it was determined
that he had broken into businesses in Greenport where he stole cash and damaged property. Additionally,
McEwan broke into a residence in the Village of Philmont and stole $1,600.00 in cash.
As the investigation continued, Sheriff’s Investigators recovered stolen property indicating McEwan’s possible
involvement in several other burglaries, including at an Art Gallery in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and a
business in Leeds, Greene County, NY. A burglary committed by McEwan in the City of Hudson was also
solved in conjunction with Detectives from the Hudson City Police Department.
Sheriff Harrison added that additional charges are pending and that the investigation is continuing into
McEwan’s involvement into multiple burglaries.
McEwan was arraigned in the Greenport Town Court by Judge Robert Brenzel and remanded to the county
jail without bail, to return to Greenport Court on January 12, 2009.
Sheriff’s Office charges Suspect with Additional Crimes

Columbia County, NY – Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that 28 year old Duane McEwan, no
permanent address given, who was arrested January 8th by Columbia County Deputy Sheriff’s for multiple
burglary and larceny charges, was arraigned on additional charges Wednesday January 14th in Greenport
Town Court. McEwan was originally charged with Burglary 2nd degree - class C-Felony, Burglary 3rd degree
- a class D-Felony, Grand Larceny 4th degree - class E-Felony, Petit Larceny and Criminal Mischief 4th
degree both class A Misdemeanors.
As a result of the continuing investigation by Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigators, McEwen was additionally
charged with two counts of burglary third degree, Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd
degree, 2 counts of Petit Larceny and Grand larceny 4th degree. These charges were a result of burglaries
McEwan committed to two businesses within the Town of Greenport.
McEwan was arraigned in the Greenport Town Court by Judge Robert Brenzel and remains in the county jail
without bail.
