ARREST FOR $100,000 BURGLARY IN TOWN OF AUSTERLITZ

Austerlitz, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that three individuals were arrested on
Tuesday, October 21st as result of a burglary which occurred April of this year. Brandon Merchant, 21 years old
of Greenport, Michel Faranda, 36 years old of Route 203 Ghent were each charged with Burglary 2nd Degree,
Grand Larceny 2nd, Class C Felonies; additionally David W. Quickenton, 18 years old, from Hudson Avenue
Chatham was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd degree, a class D Felony.
The burglary occurred at a private dwelling on Beale Road in the Town of Austerlitz. The residence was
burglarized in the early evening while the homeowner was away. Approximately $100,000 in cash and property
was stolen. Uniformed Deputy Sheriffs, Criminal Investigators and Evidence Technicians from the Sheriff’s
Office Law Enforcement Division have all played a part in the investigation.
Feranda and Merchant were arraigned in Austerlitz Town Court by Judge Rob Lagonia and Quickenton was
arraigned in the Town of Ghent Court by Judge David Harrison, Sr.. All three of the defendants were remanded
to the Columbia County Jail without bail and ordered to return to town court at a later date.
The Sheriff said that lead Investigator Anthony Brahm and the other criminal investigators of the Criminal
Investigation Branch have been very busy this summer. He said, “…this Burglary and several others have been
solved do to the hard work of the criminal investigators and patrol Deputy Sheriffs.”
The investigation is continuing and further charges are possible.
