ARREST HUSBAND FOR MURDER IN CLAVERACK
April 9, 2008 Claverack, NY – Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that his office is
investigating a missing person that was reported to the Sheriff’s Office yesterday afternoon. The missing person,
27-year-old Angela Morgan had failed to appear in Columbia County Family Court for a court proceeding. A
Family Court Judge ordered the family to report her missing to the Sheriff’s Office when a reasonable explanation
for her absence could not be given.
Morgan was living on route 9H in Claverack at the time of her disappearance. Members of the Sheriff’s Office
Patrol and Criminal Investigation Branches were dispatched and immediately began a search. Deputy Sheriff’s
have remained on the scene since yesterday afternoon.
The investigation continued today and as a result, a body of a female was located on the property of the missing
person. The body has not been identified and members of the Sheriff’s Office Command Staff, Patrol and
Criminal Investigative Branches are on the scene and are being assisted by members of the NYSP BCI –
Livingston and Troop K Forensic Identification Unit.
April 11, 2008 Claverack, New York – Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reports that the body of
a female found in the area of a mobile home on NYS Rte 9H in the Town of Claverack has been positively
identified as that of 27 year old Angela Morgan.
Today at 3:24 PM, Arthur H. Morgan, Jr., 37 years old of route 27B Hollowville, was arrested by members of the
Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder in the 2nd Degree for the death of his wife, Angela Morgan.
Morgan was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop on Miller Road near route 27B in the Town of
Claverack. He was arraigned in Claverack Town Court by Judge Charles Hoag and remanded to the county jail
without bail pending further court action.
The Sheriff’s Office investigation reveals that there has been a long history of domestic violence involving Angela
and Arthur Morgan. Angela Morgan was reported missing to the Sheriff’s Office on April 8th, 2008 after failing to
appear at a Family Court appearance. Columbia County Judge Jonathan Nichols was not satisfied when a
reasonable explanation for her absence could not be provided and subsequently ordered the family to report her
missing to the Sheriff’s Office. Her body was discovered under the mobile home after a search by members of
the Sheriff’s Office and State Police Forensic Investigation Unit on April 9th, 2008. At this point in the
investigation, it is apparent that on or about the 30th Day of March, Angela Morgan died at the mobile home as a
result of a domestic physical altercation with her husband.
An Autopsy at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany performed by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Jeffrey Hubbard was
attended by Sheriff’s Investigators Anthony Brahm, Deputy Sheriffs William Dunspaugh, and Marcus Hickey,
Assistant District Attorney David Costanzo and Columbia County Coroners Angelo Nero and Dr. George Davis.
The results of the Autopsy will not be complete until forensic laboratory tests and examinations are done.
Sheriff Harrison said that the investigation is still active and that Investigators and Deputy Sheriffs continue to
conduct interviews and process evidence.

including members of the Sheriff’s Office Command Staff, the State Police BCI – Livingston, Sheriff’s Office
