           PERSON THREATENS TO JUMP OFF OF RVW BRIDGE
                                                                         February 2, 2008


Greenport, NY      Columbia County Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports that on February 2nd at about 3:03pm
Sheriff’s Patrols were dispatched by County 911 for a 18 year old male threatening to jump off of the Rip Van
Winkle Bridge. The person was located about one hundred yards from the Columbia County side of the bridge by
Deputy Sheriff Eli Fieser.

Also responding with Sheriff’s Patrols were the NYS Police from Livingston and Catskill, and the Catskill Police to
assist in closing traffic to the bridge. Greenport Rescue Squad responded as well. The Bridge was closed for
approximately 20 minutes.

Sheriff Harrison said that Deputy Sheriff Fieser, who has formal training in serious incident negotiations, was able
to talk the person into going to Columbia Memorial Hospital for evaluation. He was transported to CMH by Deputy
Sheriff Fieser without further incident.

The identity of the person who threatened to jump is not released due to HIPAA regulations.

Sheriff Harrison commends the response and cooperation of all emergency services agencies, and especially the
actions of Deputy Sheriff Fieser for bringing this situation to a positive conclusion.

Along with Deputy Sheriff Fieser, Captain David Bartlett and Deputy Sheriffs Heath Benansky, Peter Grzeskow
and Kris Bauhoff assisted at the scene.
