SHERIFF'S OFFICE SEEKS VEHICLE AND OPERATOR FOR QUESTIONING
                                                            NOVEMBER 28, 2007

Columbia County, NY          Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. is requesting assistance from the local media and the public for an
investigation that his Office is conducting.

Sheriff’s Investigators and Deputy Sheriff’s are looking for a silver colored vehicle which is described as half car and half
pick-up truck, and was operated by a white male possibly more than 50 years of age, balding with some gray hair.  The
vehicle may be similar in type to a Subaru Baja or Ford XLT Explorer.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that Monday afternoon at about 3:00PM, an 11 year old girl in the Claverack/Stottville area was
approached by this individual operating this type of silver colored vehicle, while she was outside of her residence.  The
person asked questions which were inappropriate for someone not associated with the family or residence, to ask a child.
The man then left without further incident.

The Sheriff adds that there was another incident similar to this involving younger children outside a residence in Livingston
in May of this year.  It is not known if the two incidents are related, but are being treated as if they are.

It is stressed that there was no attempt to abduct or have physical contact in either incident, however the Sheriff’s Office is
attempting to locate the vehicle and the individual operating it for questioning.  There are no charges pending as of this
time.

Sheriff Harrison said that investigators are being cautious until it can be determined otherwise.  Informational flyers have
been distributed to law enforcement agencies in and around Columbia County as well as school districts in the County.
Additionally, Sheriff’s Investigators are checking sex offender records and with the New York State Intelligence Center,
(NYSIC), to determine if there were any other incidents of this type reported in other parts of the state.  Sr./Inv Kevin Skype,
Investigator Mark Dunspaugh and Sergeant Michael Merante are investigating.

He reminds young people and parents, that common sense provides the best course of action when dealing with these
types of situations.  Parents are reminded to have a plan with their children, which includes what they should do when
approached by someone not known to them.  This should also include contacting a parent, a nearby police officer or 911
immediately if they feel uncomfortable about what is occurring or has occurred.

The Sheriff is asking for anyone who may have information regarding someone who operates this type of silver colored
vehicle, and may fit the limited description given, to call the Sheriff’s Office at 518-828-3344.
