HANDICAPPED PARKING ENFORCEMENT WEEK
November 9, 2007
Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. announces that the second annual Handicap Parking Enforcement
week is being held during November.
When handicapped parking laws are violated, an already difficult situation is made even more difficult for persons
with disabilities as they attempt to find parking which would allow them accessibility to their destination.
This week in November is requested as it is just prior to the holiday shopping season. It is intended to raise
awareness that persons with disabilities must have appropriate access to holiday activities like everyone else and
especially with regards to handicapped parking.
During the week of November 12th – November 18th, Law Enforcement Commander, Captain David P. Bartlett will
request that all law enforcement agencies in Columbia County participate in targeting handicapped parking
violations. The Sheriff’s Office will also patrol parking lots checking to ensure adequate handicapped parking
spots and will provide awareness training to any group or community organization requesting same.
Sheriff Harrison reports that the theme of this year’s handicapped Enforcement and Awareness Week is:
Handicapped parking spaces are for use by persons with disabilities,…..IT’S THE LAW!
By parking unlawfully in a handicapped parking space, you will make a person with disabilities life more difficult.
