MARIHUANA ERADICATION OPERATION
September 10, 2007
Greenport, NY Members of the Sheriff’s Office Drug Education & Enforcement Unit and S.W.A.T. Team
conducted a three day Marihuana Eradication Operation during the first week in September.
Sheriff David Harrison, Jr. reports that ground units assisted by the Air National Guard observed and seized more
than four hundred Marihuana plants from various properties in the Towns of Greenport, Stuyvesant, Kinderhook,
Chatham, Hillsdale, Claverack, Ghent, Livingston and Germantown.
The plants, depending on how processed and packaged, could reap a value of between $150,000 to $300,000
when sold. This seizure is a result of observations made by Deputy Sheriffs and Investigators as well as
information provided by County residents to the Sheriff’s Office “CRIME TIPS” line (518-822-TIPS 8477).
The Sheriff’s Office is working with District Attorney Beth Cozzolino concerning criminal charges. The investigation
by the Sheriff’s Office Drug Education & Enforcement and District Attorney’s Office is continuing.
Sheriff Harrison thanks those residents who provided assistance and information over the past months and
commends the members of the Sheriff’s Office who worked on the detail. He said, “This is a substantial amount of
Marihuana that will not make it to Columbia County streets.”
The Sheriff reminds anyone who has information about criminal or suspicious activity to call the Sheriff’s Office
CRIME TIPS line 518-822-TIPS(8477) or visit the Sheriff’s Office website at www.columbiacountysheriff.us .
